Mel - 2003

Mel is a male orca who lives in the waters off the coast of Argentina. He and his older brother Bernardo (now deceased) have been documented since the mid-1970s. They frequently beach themselves in order to catch sea lions and seals, a staple in their diet.

Mel's dorsal fin bends to his right due to the fact that he was shot as a juvenile. The wound caused his dorsal fin to grow at an angle.
